History
Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre (LOPC) has existed in various formats for some 40 years. Originally LOPC was part of Leicestershire County Council Youth Services, and then Leicester City Council Arts and Leisure Department. It was finally due to be closed down in 1993 when City Council withdrew funding; however a group of users and coaches banded together with the aim of keeping it open.
The keys were handed over and the story of the LOPC Charity Trust began. Initially the organisation was run by a group of volunteers under the umbrella if the CK Trust. In 1996 LOPC became a Registered Charity and a Limited Company. In this year LOPC was able to pay for a part-time manager which was a major step forward. The centre grew and the part-time manager quickly became full-time.
More activities were added over the years increasing the capacity for people on the centre to over 200. Recent additions of a new high ropes complex with climbing and abseiling towers along with the building of outside ranges for archery and air rifles has significantly improved our activity provision.
