BCU Bellboat Helm Award

What is it?
A bell boat is a twinned hull very large, very stable open canoe. It can have up 14 children or 8 adults all working as a team to paddle it. Bell boating is a very enjoyable recreation that can be used for outdoor education, expeditions and competition, as well as just for fun. One of the key uses for a Bell Boat is the idea of a floating class room, where teachers can take participants out of their normal class room and bring new elements to their learning environment.
The helm award is aimed at coaches, youth leaders, teachers or anyone wishing to introduce or develop paddlers on a placid water environment. Upon gaining the award you will be able to lead and take responsibility for a crew and bell boat within the necessary guidelines. The key focus for the bell boat helm is safety and fun for all.
Pre-requisites
Candidate should have a basic knowledge of first aid and resuscitation. They need to be aged 18+ however 16 year olds can do the course and become a trainee bell boat helm. If you are not a BCU member you may need to pay further registration fees, see syllabus on the BCU website for more details.
Payment required to secure a place, together with completed registration form. No refund given for failure to attend. Notice will be given prior to the course if it has not got the sufficient number of people to go ahead.
