BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT)

What is it?
The Foundation Safety and Rescue Training, (FRST), is the replacement for the old BCU Canoe Safety Test. The objective of this course is to learn the simple and safe skills used in the canoeing and kayaking environment. The course is for paddlers or coaches irrespective of their chosen craft and can either be boat based or bank based to suit coaches. Course covers:
- using a throw line
- boat based rescues
- towing
- paddling associated hazards
- river leading kit
- group management
- scenarios
The FRST is also a pre-requisite or can be taken as part of the BCU UKCC L1 Coach Course. Our ratio for this course is six students to one course tutor.
Pre-requisite
To do the Boat Based Course the candidate must have their 2 Star Award or be of that ability. Bank based participants will not need the 2 Star Award however they would be required to at least participate in all relevant aspects of the course. Candidates will need to be able to swim in normal suitable clothing. Min Age 14.
Payment required to secure a place, together with completed registration form. Further to the courses fees candidates will be expected to pay a registration fee, which is paid to the BCU. This is £5 for BCU members or £10 for non members.
