Introduction to Canoeing leading to 1 Star
Cost: £55
What is it?
This course is for absolute beginners. There will be four session of training ending with an assessment session aiming to achieve the BCU 1 Star Award. Two of the weeks will be in kayak and two will be in canoe in order to give you an thorough introduction to paddle sport. You will:
- Learn to paddle forwards and backwards
- Find out how to steer and control the boat
- Develop the beginnings in water confidence
- Discover the differences between canoe and kayaking and how they relate to each other
We work on a ratio of 1:8 to give plenty of personal tuition throughout the course. The course is spread out over four training sessions and an assessment at the end. This is to give plenty of time to reflect on the skills being taught and time to keep practicing and really embed the new strokes in to your personal skill set
Necessary equipment such as boats, paddles and buoyancy aids will be provided.
Pre-requisites
Although it is not necessary it is ideal that the candidates are aged 14 and over. Candidates do not need to be able to swim but some water confidence is preferable.
