At Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre (LOPC), we believe outdoor adventure should be for everyone.
That’s why we’ve created the Community Fund—a dedicated initiative to help people who face barriers to accessing our activities experience the joy, challenge, and learning opportunities that the outdoors can offer.
Our Mission
LOPC is a registered charity with a mission to:
“Provide adventurous outdoor activity experiences designed to stimulate, educate and motivate young people and others at affordable prices in a challenging and safe environment.”
We deliver a wide range of activities including high ropes, climbing, archery, canoeing, bell boating, bushcraft, and more—catering to schools, youth groups, families, charities, businesses, and individuals.
Why the Community Fund Exists
Despite our inclusive approach, we know that financial, social, or other barriers still prevent some people from joining in. The Community Fund aims to remove these barriers, enabling:
Individuals or groups experiencing financial hardship
Young people from disadvantaged or marginalised backgrounds
Communities living in areas of high deprivation
Those facing other significant challenges to participation
…to enjoy the physical, social, and educational benefits of adventurous outdoor learning.
What the Fund Can Support
The Community Fund may cover:
Subsidised or fully funded activity sessions
Transport costs to and from LOPC
Equipment hire
Support staff or additional resources needed to ensure accessibility
Each grant is considered individually and depends on the funding available.
Who Can Benefit
The Fund is aimed at individuals, families, schools, and community groups who meet one or more of the following criteria:
Low-income households
Young people eligible for free school meals or pupil premium
Charities or not-for-profit organisations supporting vulnerable or disadvantaged people
Individuals with physical, mental, or emotional challenges that would otherwise prevent participation
Refugees, asylum seekers, or those recently affected by crisis or displacement
LOPC may request supporting information to assess eligibility.
How to Access the Fund
The Community Fund is not open for general applications yet. Grants will be made available as funding is secured, and each opportunity will include clear guidance on:
Who is eligible
What the grant covers
How to express interest or apply
Application deadlines (if applicable)
We encourage everyone interested to follow us online or subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed about future funding opportunities.
LOPC may also use the Fund proactively, for example:
Continuing successful programmes that reach new participants
Purchasing specialist equipment for accessibility
Offering therapeutic or supportive activities following challenging events
Match funding initiatives from other organisations
Review and Impact
We monitor every funded session to ensure the Fund is making a positive difference. Feedback may be requested to help us evaluate and improve future provision. All data is handled according to GDPR and data protection standards.
The Community Fund is reviewed annually to ensure it remains transparent, effective, and aligned with our charitable mission.
