This is a great opportunity to get out canoeing, meet new people and feel good about having a positive impact on our environment.

The problem

Every year tonnes of rubbish is thrown, dumped or finds its way into the River Soar. As well as being a hazard to our wildlife it also completely ruins the place spoiling what should be a pleasant place for people to come and enjoy, whether it’s a canal boat trip, going canoeing or kayaking, or even a walk along the river side.

Our aim

We meet up once every month and spend half a day paddling along the river and picking up as much rubbish as we can.
We try to keep the river as clean as we can and also collect litter from the banks and tow paths too. We welcome people who want to walk along side of the river collecting litter, whilst others are able to reach litter from boats.

What is in it for you?

As you contribute to improving the environment for all users, we find our litter pick team enjoy a great sense of satisfaction when from the positive impact made on the environment. At times we have literally collected a full truck of rubbish from the river in a single session, which really makes you feel like you’re making a difference to the river environment.

It is also a good chance to go canoeing and meet new people / making new friends who share a common interest in helping to improve the environment.
It may interest you to know that over the past 11 years we have collected more than 4000 bags of litter from the river and river-bank. A fact that is equally disgusting and heart-warming to know how much of a difference all of our supporters have made.

There is a £3 charge to cover our costs and purchase litter picking equipment. You can book online – clicking on our ‘Book Now’ button, then clicking on ‘Activities’.
