One of the National Trust's top 50 things to do before you're eleven and three quarters!

Canoeing is one of the most popular activities we run. It's easy to see why as you take your canoe on an adventure along the River Soar right next to the centre. Canoe sessions can include a variety of different elements including: challenges, learning new skills, racing games, ball games, raft games, journeying, balance skills, or for the more adventurous you can have a go at getting wet and even a capsize. The choice is yours.

In an open canoe you can either sit or kneel. Open canoe paddles have one blade and you paddle on one side of the boat, unlike a kayak paddle that has a blade at each end so you can alternate.

We have a large fleet of open canoes that are ideal for groups of people who want to have fun and learn how to handle a versatile and steady boat. Bigger than a kayak and allowing up to 3 people in a boat, team work is essential.

Canoeing is great for developing communication in pairs or threes, as well as within a larger team.
