Ducklings paddle club for kids
Have fun learning and getting to grips with all the basic skills for starting out in paddlesport. Once you are signed up you can attend whichever sessions you want and pay as you go. Ideal for ages 8 to 13.
Beginners THURSDAYS - (Ducklings) - Arrive 4pm, session will run 4.15pm to 5.45pm. START DELAYED, WILL NOW RUN FROM MAY ONWARDS.
Participants will begin by following the Paddle Award scheme, specially adapted for younger learners. Children can track their development with a log sheet as they work their way through the activities to achieve the Start & Discover awards in the Duckling (beginner) sessions. After 6 weeks your Duckling will probably be ready for the Cygnets club - however they can remain a duckling for as long as they want if they are happy!

Pay the same fee for each subsequent session but pay as you go on arrival. Only pay when you attend.
When children pass a level (Start, Discover, Explore) they can register to get a certificate. Start certificates are free, but the others cost £8 each. These are optional but can be paid for when you receive the email from British Canoeing to say your child has passed.
When your child moves up to Cygnets the fee is £11, and it is a 2 hour session. You do not need to book online for Cygnets, just let us know at LOPC that your child is moving up and we will add your child to the register.
Maximum group size
No experience is needed for ducklings, just an enthusiasm to try something new!
Cygnets need to have some basic boat handling skills in both canoe and kayak.
Typical session structure
Ducklings will go out and do a variety of basic skills, working through a syllabus to get some boat handling techniques and having lots of fun while they are at it! 90 minute sessions.
Cygnets will also be having lots of fun, building on their already acquired skills to get even better and have adventures. 2 hour sessions to enable the group to move away from the centre on journeys.
What to wear
Dress for the weather, include shoes you can get wet. Don't forget a full change of clothes for afterwards!
